Picture this– one day, everyone’s smartphone screens have suddenly become unresponsive. You frantically tap on your blank screen, trying to revive your precious device, but it remains black. Strangely enough, everything else at home is still working, so you turn on the T.V, and hear the horrifying truth in a news broadcast:
“It appears that everyone’s smartphones have just…stopped working for the day.”
Not only is this a nightmare that inconveniences your daily life, but this is even more detrimental to your online business. If no one could reach your business via mobile for one day, you’d be missing out on possibly more than you realize. And if you’re not putting serious effort into your mobile marketing strategies, this could possibly already be a reality for you.
This year, 52.2% of all worldwide online traffic has been generated through mobile phones. That means that over half of online searches are being done on mobile devices, but it makes sense when you think of all the searches that end with “near me,” or consider all of the times you’ve needed to be informed but didn’t have time to sit down at a desktop.
51% of customers say that they use mobile devices to discover new brands and products. Without mobile marketing, you can kiss over half of potential converting online users goodbye.
It gets worse.
75% of Americans say they use their smartphones most often to check email. So your email campaigns are about to receive a lot less attention. On the bright side, you’d still be able to reach the 15% of people who open emails on their desktops, but can you really be that optimistic about losing all those email clicks?
If you’re running any ads on social media, 87% of Facebook’s advertising revenue comes from mobile, so you’d be missing out on a huge chunk of profits. 85% of of the time users spend on Twitter is on their mobile devices and 60% of LinkedIn traffic comes from mobile as well, so good luck maintaining the social media presence you’ve built.
Shall I continue?
The fact is that more people own a cell phone than a toothbrush, and 71% of marketers believe mobile marketing is core to their business. Over 40% of online transactions are now done on mobile, so it’s safe to say that if no one had access to their mobile phones for the day, your online business would suffer tremendously.
If you aren’t taking your mobile marketing strategy as seriously as you need to, use these statistics and this scenario to make sure your business is reputable on mobile.
Picture this once more– you’re in a panic, wondering when everyone will be able to access their phones again so that your business can function as usual. Even one day without mobile traffic can do a ton of damage to your sales. Finally, the news comes back on saying…
“This just in. It appears that everyone’s smartphones will be working again by tomorrow morning.”
